From dig to dump, every scoop counts

One load, start to finish. The dirt you lift is the dirt you carry: it's never created or destroyed on the way.
  1. Step 1

    Dig in

The bucket bites and the ground gives.

  2. Step 2

    Lift it out

Terrain comes away by the bucketful.

  3. Step 3

    Load the truck

Sand heaps and settles in the bed.

  4. Step 4

    Haul it

Trucks drive the load across the island.

  5. Step 5

    Dump it

Tip at your marker and watch it pour.

  6. Step 6

    It stays

The pile is still there when you come back.

Big machines, ready to work

Climb in and feel the weight. Every machine digs, pushes or hauls real dirt, and bigger sizes unlock as you work.
Excavator in Born to Dig (in-game)

Excavator

Dig it, swing it, load it

The heart of the dig. Cut trenches, scoop heaps and load trucks from the cab or a chase camera.

How much assistance?

Easy enough for kids, deep enough for operators. Pick how much the game helps you. You can change these settings anytime.
  1. In-engine render of the heavy level's machine

    Heavy

    The most help

Gentle, slower controls. The machine plans your scoops and loads the truck for you.

  2. In-engine render of the medium level's machine

    Medium

    Relaxed play

Click to scoop, click again to dump. The trucks drive themselves. You aim over the truck.

  3. In-engine render of the light level's machine

    Light

    A little help

You drive the trucks. The camera follows your dump. You run the dozer blade.

  4. In-engine render of the none level's machine

    None

    Experienced players

Full control of boom, stick and bucket. No help.

Custom

Pick which helps are on and which are off. Every screen works with a controller as well as keyboard and mouse, and the button prompts match the device you're holding.

Machines are in-engine renders from the game's assistance screen. The bar under each level shows how much control you take on.

You never know what's underground

Digging isn't only about moving dirt. Hidden objects, forgotten toys, old tools and unusual discoveries can become part of your collection.

39 finds to collect, from shells near the surface to one legendary find per island below 4.5 m. Every find is earned by digging. Nothing is bought, and finds have no real-world value.

Finds are studio renders of the models the game uses. Models under CC BY 4.0: Rubber duck by Ryan King Art, Snail shell by matousekfoto, Broken bone by matousekfoto, Ammonite by matousekfoto, Mouflon skull by Zygomir, Anchor by plaggy, Horse skull by matousekfoto.
